"Muslim All-Stars: Helping the Polonskys" is the first book in a series written for children ages 8-12 to help teach strong positive social values and a sense of ownership and participation in the community. Written by the famous nasheed (Islamic vocal performer) Khaleel Muhammad, "Muslim All-Stars" is a first rate illustrated chapter book with five Muslim children as protagonists. Imran, Leila, Che Amran, Sumaya, and Adam all decide to try to help the irascible Mr. Polonsky clean up his challenging messy house before his wife comes home from the hospital. Colorful cartoon illustrations help keep young readers' interest high as the Muslim All-Stars tackle grumpiness and slovenliness all at once in helping the Polonskys. Humor is paramount, and the All-Stars are determined to make positive headway once they realize the seriousness of Mr. Polonsky's need. Under the inspired direction of Leila, the All-Stars learn to work as a team, after a somewhat rough start. Mr. Polonsky's menagerie of animal friends add to the clutter and confusion, but they too, are managed by the team eventually. some of the best parts of the story come when Mr. Polonsky, an old Polish Jew, discovers he enjoys watching when the team members stop their work to pray in Arabic at 1:30 and 4:15. Eventually the All Stars have the Polonsky place sparkling and ready for Mrs. Polonsky's return from the hospital. Unfortunately their problems don't end with the return of Mrs. Polonsky, whose rude and irrational behavior frightens everyone....
